National Day of Ethnography,
Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology
9 February 2020

The decision of the Board of Directors of the Polish Folklore Association on 26 October 2019 established that February 9th will be a National Day of Ethnography, Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology On that day, in 1895, in the hall of the Lviv City Hall, on the initiative of Prof. Antoni Kalina, a Folklore Society was established, whose heir and continuator is the Polish Folklore Association

The Polish Folklore Association initiates the national celebration of this day at a difficult time for ethnology and anthropology, as it disappeared from the list of disciplines of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The PFA trusts that the proposal for joint annual celebrations of the discipline will contribute to consolidating the environment and taking integrated action to continue and disseminate the work of many generations of ethnologists and anthropologists. Moreover, the Polish Folklore Association hopes that the various forms of celebration of the National Day of Ethnography, Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology will contribute to the visibility of ethnographic, ethnological and anthropological projects not only in the academic space but also in the public sphere.
