SIGHTSEEING

We are open to suggestions and flexible in the way we interact with our Visitors. Our offer, including guided tours and educational activities, is constantly adjusted to our Visitors’ needs and expectations.

We are aware that the Museum grounds, the architecture of the historical buildings, and the arrangement of the exhibitions may be difficult to navigate for some Visitors. We also understand that various disabilities and limitations can make experiencing the Museum and its resources challenging.

We recognise that people with disabilities often face not only the limitations related to their individual conditions, but also barriers created by their surroundings.

Below you will find information about the adjustments introduced to make our Museum more accessible to Visitors with disabilities.

Visitors with mobility impairments

Due to its outdoor character and the nature of its historical architecture, the Open Air Museum in Lublin is only partially accessible to Visitors with mobility impairments.

The Museum covers 23 hectares divided into seven sectors, each recreating the pre-war architecture of villages, small towns, and manor estates. Alongside the buildings, we faithfully recreate historical road surfaces such as dirt roads and stone pavements. Moving around certain parts of the Museum may therefore be challenging.

Narrow entrances, high thresholds, and small exhibition rooms are characteristic features of the historical buildings presented in the Museum. The buildings are not equipped with ramps or access platforms.

A restroom adapted for Visitors with physical disabilities is located in the “Miasteczko” sector, in the Town Hall from Głusk, on level –1. The staircase is equipped with a special lift operated by employees responsible for the “Miasteczko” sector.

Adjustments for Visitors with hearing impairments

We have prepared videos about 58 historical buildings in Polish Sign Language for Visitors with hearing impairments. Thanks to this solution, Visitors can explore the Museum independently without the need to book a guided tour.

The videos can be accessed via QR codes placed on wooden plaques with descriptions of each building.

Visually impaired Visitors

We have prepared a special sightseeing route called “A Different View”, which includes selected historical buildings. The route begins with a bronze tactile map located near the Museum reception.

The route includes the following buildings:

  • the windmill from Zygmuntów,
  • the cottage from Korytków,
  • the oil mill from Bogucin,
  • the houses from Siedliszcze,
  • the church from Matczyn,
  • the manor house from Żyrzyn,
  • the Orthodox church from Tarnoszyn.

Each of these buildings is equipped with tactile aids, including bronze scale models of the buildings and characteristic objects connected with them, such as a millstone and an oil press. Some interiors also contain tactile learning aids, including replicas of museum artefacts and historical objects.

Visitors can learn more about the layout, function, and furnishings of the buildings through specially prepared 3D prints. In the Museum churches, Visitors can also listen to musical pieces connected with the traditions associated with these sites.

Sightseeing along the “A Different View” route is available upon prior reservation.

Visitors with intellectual disabilities

Visitors with intellectual disabilities are welcome to participate in guided tours and educational activities, during which tactile learning aids may be used.

For individual Visitors, we have also prepared simplified sightseeing rules with pictograms, available at the Museum reception.
