HARVESTING IN THE LUBLIN OPEN AIR VILLAGE MUSEUM
26th of July 2020

On Sunday, 26th of July from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. there will be a harvesting [żniwowanie] in the Lublin Open Air Village Museum. Harvesters and the women who help them, wearing neat, linen clothes, just like it used to take place in pre-war villages, will come to the field of rye which is located by windmill from Zygmuntów. During this ceremonial, long awaited moment, we would like to create the atmosphere of the festivity and joy that accompanied harvesters during harvests at that time.

We will present mowing the grain with a scythe and horse-drawn mower. We’ve also thought of providing the time for a meal and relaxation to the harvesters. All the activities will be followed by a enlightening commentary explaining the old harvest customs.

Moreover, the shows called “The way to bread” [Droga do chleba] will take place as a part of harvesting in the open air museum. It will lead us through the stages of the work of a miller in the windmill from Zygmuntów and even to the flatbread [podpłomyk] baking in the cottage from Żukowo.

The Holy Mass will take place in the historic church from Matczyn at 4 p.m.
