THE FESAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

On the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – 15th of August 2021, as every year, the Lublin Open Air Village Museum will hold a feast. This day is the patronal holiday of the open-air museum’s church moved from Matczyn. The event “ will take place from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the Town sector on the market square and in the sacral complex.

The event will recreate the traditions of ancient indulgence feasts in villages and towns. In the town square of the museum’s town there will be feast stalls with contemporary articles and products. But one of the stalls will present a former indulgence feast’s merchandise from the Museum’s collection: devotional items, ornaments, wooden and metal toys.

On the Feast of Our Lady Herbaceous, as the holiday was also called, wreaths made of ears of grain, fruit, and herbs were brought to church to be blessed. The Museum invites visitors to bring ready-made wreaths with them. They will also be able to buy them in the Museum, and during a presentation they will learn how such wreaths were made. The climax will be a solemn Holy Mass with the blessing of the herbal wreaths. It will begin at 4:00 pm and end with a procession.

The Lublin Open Air Village Museum will also host the Honey and Herb Festival. In the Powiśle sector, visitors will be able to learn how to identify herbs (3:00 pm -5:00 pm), and there will also be a herbal photo frame (12:00 pm – 5:00 pm).
