HANDS FULL OF WORDS
Implementation of the project funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland

The Lublin Open Air Village Museum is carrying out the task “Hands full of words. Adjustment of the communication form of the content of the museum exhibition to the needs of deaf people” as part of the programme supporting museum activities. The project is financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.

The task “Hands full of words. Adjustment of the communication form of the content of the museum exhibition to the needs of deaf people” consists in modernising 58 permanent open-air museum exhibitions in a way that will enable people with hearing impairment to explore the Lublin Open Air Village Museum. As part of the task, the Museum will be equipped with elements that will allow deaf people to explore the Museum independently and effectively. These will be: films in Polish Sign Language with 58 museum exhibitions available for deaf people through the QR code system and marking the Museum area with signposts and information boards. Additionally, there will be training courses for Museum employees focused on contact and cooperation with deaf people. The three selected museum events will be organised in a way that also enables deaf people to participate. The modernisation of 58 open-air museum exhibitions in the area of the Lublin Open Air Village Museum will promote the idea of eliminating barriers that discriminate against people with disabilities and their participation in culture.
